When I think of ‘a getaway’ I think of somewhere peaceful as well beautiful and luxurious. Somewhere that forces you to relax. Somewhere that allows you to truly be at ease and properly recharge. Close your eyes. Is this what you picture as well? Boutique Hotel San Roque was that precise place for me.
The adults-only hotel is set in a completely restored old stately mansion. The house is full of history, but with all the modern comforts. The meeting of history with modern touches is done so well that you do not realise where one starts and the other begins. Stunning works of art are scattered through out the hotel adding to the enchanting atmosphere. If you were walking down the street in La Garachico you wouldn’t quite realise the hideaway behind the tall walls. It’s like a secret I am privileged to now be in on.
From the moment my husband and I arrived we were greeted warmly. Our bags were taken away while we were shown our duplex suite. The bags arrived before a moments notice and we settled into our spacious and beautifully designed accommodation .
Each morning we woke up to a leisurely breakfast at the poolside restaurant, The Anturium. The breakfast spread was perfect. Pastries, cheeses, yoghurt, fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice to name a few as well as the option of eggs and bacon to order all on the menu. Dinner was also served poolside, but this time dimly lit, for that extra romantic feel. Soft music played in the background as we chose our bottle of wine. It was one of the most effortlessly relaxing meals we’ve had in awhile.
There are various spots in the hotel to sit, ponder, read, or all of the above. There is a courtyard, sundeck, poolside, and generous halls each encompassing the feeling of elegant luxury. In the case that you may find yourself wanting anything, perhaps you fancy a cocktail or a snack from the restaurant, there would be no need to get up. Whether you are relaxing in the cobblestoned courtyard or your wood finished room there was a service button to hand. All of the staff seemed to know which room you were in, and when you had left. The discreetness of it all was impressive.
My experience at Hotel San Roque was one of total tranquility. My husband and I rarely go on breaks like this one, as we tend to sway toward city breaks, but I’m so happy that we did. It gave us the chance to truly spend quality time together with no distractions. Any couple looking for somewhere romantic, that intimate hotel feel, somewhere you could stay awhile, should look no further than Hotel San Roque.
Thank you to the wonderful staff at Hotel San Roque. As always, all opinions are my own.
