My first time abroad was when I was 15 years old, the Spanish teacher at my high school took a group of us to Spain and I remember being absolutely amazed at the culture, the buildings, the people; simply everything. Since then, I haven’t stopped pining to see the world and I’m always planning my next trip, whether it’s around the block or around the world..
In 2012 I decided to do my last semester of college in Manchester, England to finish my Foodservice and Restaurant Business Degree.
Little did I know, I would be living in England for another 6 years. I met my now husband that October on a Ryan Air plane to Malta and our first date was in the romantic town of Mdina. After that night, we decided to see each other again when we got back to Manchester and the rest is history.
Within two years of meeting, Si and I were married, living in his hometown of Devon, running a food truck business and spending any time off traveling.
We loved working at festivals and events throughout the UK and then having the affordable short haul flights to the rest of Europe so we could jet off to Spain, Malta or Italy. There we’d spend our off time drinking wine and staying in an old mansion in the Canary Islands or trying to seek out the hidden gems and less tourist populated bars in Venice. We didn’t always need to go abroad though and would spend many days travelling down the Devon Coast to explore one of the counties two National Parks, frequenting the old world country and thatched pubs and exploring the epic coastline.
Si and I choose travel experiences based on authenticity and intimacy. Our favorite stays being ones where we came back with a story of meeting the owner, making friends with the locals and really learning the story of a place and people. (Si is one of those people who opts to sit at the bar just to chat, so none-the-less, we always come back with a story.)
Together, our love of unique escapes, food and drink grew exponentially over the years.
During this time I had started my blog, NY to Anywhere, to share my experiences abroad with family and friends, we started Consuming Couple on an Instagram food page to share our love of the culinary world and I began to really learn about photography. The knowledge, skills and insights we acquired over the years led us to start our company, Consuming Creative, where we now create content for friends and clients within the hospitality industry, ranging from hotels and resorts to restaurants and bars to branded product shoots.
