The Canaries are an amazing chain of islands, Lanzarote being one of the smaller but in my opinion more beautiful islands. There are a handful of resort towns to stay but my favourite has to be Playa Blanca. For me, it has the perfect amount of buzz with a laid back vibe.

Playa Blanca has a great location and all the amenities you could really need. Ideally,  Playa Blanca is only a 40 minute drive from the airport and the has some beautiful beaches close by as well as it’s own white sand beach.

The great thing about Playa Blanca, is that if you don’t want to use a car, you don’t have to! There are lots of restaurants, cafes and bars all at your fingertips. One of the prettiest beaches I think I’ve ever been called Papagayo, is just a walk away, although the water taxi will get you there with out tany strain!

In terms of activities, you will have plenty to choose from. Quad rentals, Aqualava Waterpark, or a day ferry to Fuerteventura to name a few. It’s a mere 25 minute boat ride to the neighbouring island! Are you a walker? Head to the top of Montana Roja, a volcano crater in this part of the island. At the top you will see some great views of Playa Blanca as well as the nearby island of Fuerteventura. Are you a diver? Well there just happens to be Museo Atlantico, Europe´s only underwater sculpture museum! Are you a shopper?  Marina Rubicon just next store is the spot for you. It is stocked with boutique shops as well as places to dine. Watersports, segways or cycle tours are a few more things you can add to your list of activity choices.

If you do have use of a car, the possibilities are endless.  It is so easy to get around the island, I hardly used a map when I was there! Because of the small size of Lanzarote I actually drove around it in just a few days.  There is still so many of stops I didn’t get to and can’t wait to return for more.

Just a short drive away from Playa Blanca one of my other favourites spots, El Golfo. There is some stunning coastline here as well as a few restaurants to have a really fresh seafood lunch.

El Golfo, Lanzarote

Whether you’re on family holiday or a couples holiday I think it’s safe to say Playa Blanca would be a wonderful base to explore the island, take advantage of everything that’s on offer in the area or plant yourself on the beach!
